What's in the photo:
This client desired to have a room below an exterior deck that was completely open. The size of the room was approximately 35' x 50'. The need to maintain maximum ceiling height required a unique approach. Conventional wood or steel beams would not work in this situation due to the size of the beam that would be required given the span distance of 35'. The engineer chose a Metwood beam and steel joist system. This worked out perfectly as we were able to keep the beam/joist size at 9-1/4".
